Establishing an Independent Public Advocate

Closed 3 Dec 2018

Opened 10 Sep 2018

Overview

The government is committed to introducing an Independent Public Advocate who will act for bereaved families after a public disaster and support them at inquests and inquiries.

This consultation sets out our proposals for the role of the Independent Public Advocate, exploring how they might best support bereaved families, and potentially others, to enable them to fully understand and engage in the investigation following a disaster. It seeks views on when the support of the Independent Public Advocate should be available, what investigations the role will cover and who will be eligible for support.

This consultation is aimed at people who have been bereaved or otherwise affected by a public disaster; the organisations that support them; organisations and services involved in investigating disasters; and anyone else affected by or with an interest in the issues in this consultation.
